Improving the Quality of Education: Teaching Practitioner Program and Pre-Service PPG Collaborate at FMIPA UNY

Practitioner teaching program is a program that aims to connect practitioners or experts in certain fields with the world of education. In this program, practitioners will be invited to share their experience and knowledge with students in educational institutions. This aims to provide a deeper and more practical understanding of their field. With this program, it is hoped that students can gain a broader and deeper insight into the field they are studying, and can get a clearer picture of the world of work in that field.

Thursday, December 28, 2023 and January 11, 2024, FMIPA UNY held a teaching practitioner program with the audience being PPG Pre-Service Wave 1 and Wave 2 students. This activity is a collaboration of 2 programs that welcome the golden Indonesia 2045, namely between the teaching practitioner program and the PPG Pre-Service program. Pre-Service PPG stands for Pre-Service Teacher Professional Education Program. This program is an educational program organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) for prospective professional teachers.  PPG Pre-Service aims to improve the competence and quality of prospective teachers in carrying out their duties and functions as educators in schools in Indonesia.

This practitioner program presents 3 practitioners, namely Dr. Slamet Wijono (SMK N 2 Depok, Yogyakarta), Mrs. Titin Sumarni, S. Pd. (SMP N 2 Turi, Yogyakarta), and Mrs. Titin Apriliati, M.Sc. (SMA N 2 Wonosari, Yogyakarta). The three of them were presented as practitioners in welcoming the vision of the Merdeka curriculum which emphasizes strengthening expertise and skills to prepare the younger generation to face future challenges.

The activity held in the PPG Room of the Mathematics Education Laboratory FMIPA UNY starts from 07:30 to 09:10 WIB. Teaching practitioners are divided into 3 classes where each class adjusts the expertise of the practitioner. Collaboration between the practitioner program and the Pre-Service PPG can provide great benefits for prospective teachers who are undergoing the Pre-Service PPG program. Through this collaboration, prospective teachers can gain direct insight from practitioners or experts in the field of education, so that they can understand more deeply the demands and realities of the field in the world of education. Practitioners can share their experiences, teaching strategies, and the latest trends in education that may not be covered in the formal curriculum. This can help prospective teachers to be more prepared and relevant in facing challenges in the field. In addition, this collaboration can also help prospective teachers to build useful networks and connections in the world of education. Thus, collaboration between practitioner programs and PPG Pre-Service can make a positive contribution in preparing quality teacher candidates who are ready to face the demands of the education profession.
