Community Service Activity (PkM) of the Mathematics Education DLK Team, UNY, in Collaboration with the Mathematics MGMP of Senior High Schools/Islamic Senior High Schools (SMA/MA) in Bantul

The Mathematics Education Study Program at Yogyakarta State University (UNY) held a Community Service Program (PkM) in collaboration with the Mathematics Subject Teachers’ Forum (MGMP) for Senior High Schools (SMA/MA) in Bantul Regency. The theme of this PkM was “UNY-Ku Tenar Program: Strengthening Innovation in Mathematics Learning through Philosophy Literacy and Statistical Literacy for Senior High School Teachers in Bantul Regency.” This activity is part of the Mathematics Education Study Program’s commitment to fostering and developing the quality of mathematics education at the secondary education level. The program was chaired by Mr. Heru Sukoco, S.Si., M.Pd., a lecturer in Mathematics Education at UNY, and took place at the Hall of SMA Negeri 1 Jetis on Thursday, August 8, 2024. More than 40 mathematics teachers from SMA/MA who are members of the Bantul MGMP participated in this event.

The event opened with welcoming remarks from Mr. Sumarno, S.Pd., M.Pd., Principal of SMA N 1 Jetis, and Mr. Arief Wismono, M.Pd., Chair of the Bantul SMA/MA Mathematics MGMP. This was followed by presentations from the invited speakers. Dr. Dra. Mathilda Susanti, M.Si. delivered a detailed session on statistical literacy in teaching probability, including examples of literacy-based questions in probability with clear contexts and content. Next, Dr. Fadhila Rachmadani, S.Fil., M.Phil. presented on philosophy literacy as a reinforcement of the philosophical foundations in mathematics education, while also sharing several books with participants who actively engaged in the Q&A session.

The activity also involved two undergraduate students, two master’s students, and one doctoral student from the Mathematics Education Program, FMIPA UNY. With sufficient time allocated, both speakers and participants had the opportunity to explore and share their classroom experiences. The PkM activity ran smoothly and received positive responses from various parties, especially the mathematics teachers.
