Mediation Analysis Workshop Using JASP at FST Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia

Mediation Analysis Workshop Using JASP Strengthens Data Analysis Competencies as Part of the Community Service Program of the Department of Mathematics Education, FMIPA UNY at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, FST UKM

As part of the series of activities during the visit to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia on June 8, 2026, the Department of Mathematics Education, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), conducted a Mediation Analysis Workshop Using JASP. This community service activity was led by Prof. Kismiantini, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D. and was supported by Dr. Nur Firyal Roslan, a lecturer from the Department of Mathematical Sciences, FST UKM, who served as the coordinator from the partner institution. The workshop was held in the Computer Laboratory of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, FST UKM, and was attended by undergraduate students from the department. JASP was selected because it is an open-source software package that is user-friendly and suitable for advanced statistical analyses.

Participants received comprehensive training on mediation analysis, including the concepts of mediation, data preparation, simple mediation models, parallel mediation models, serial mediation models, interpretation of JASP outputs, and reporting results in accordance with international publication standards. The hands-on practice session was facilitated by the community service project leader, Prof. Kismiantini, Ph.D., enabling participants to conduct data analyses using various mediation models and interpret the resulting outputs. Dr. Nur Firyal Roslan, as the coordinator of both the benchmarking visit and the workshop as well as the institutional partner representative, also shared insights on the practical application of JASP in actuarial science and data science research. The workshop provided a collaborative learning environment that enhanced students’ analytical skills and research competencies.

Through this workshop, FMIPA UNY reaffirmed its commitment to improving the quality of research and scientific publications. Mastery of data analysis tools such as JASP is expected to accelerate research processes for both students and academic staff. This collaboration is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4: Quality Education, which is a shared focus of both institutions.
