WEBINAR SERIES #6 PPG Prajabatan: Moving Toward Professionalism Between Expectations and Reality

The Department of Mathematics Education, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Yogyakarta State University, successfully held the 2025 Webinar Series #6. This webinar took place on Saturday, 15 November 2025, with the theme "PPG Prajabatan: Moving Toward Professionalism Between Expectations and Reality."

The event was opened by Dr. Retno Subekti, M.Sc., who conveyed that the purpose of Webinar Series #6 is to remain relevant to educational needs and to serve as an important pillar in producing professional teachers who are not only pedagogically competent but also adaptive and full of integrity.

The first speaker, Mr. Denny Pritianto, S.Pd., Gr., delivered a presentation titled “From the PPG Classroom to the Real Classroom: Weaving Hope, Welcoming Reality, Moving Toward Teacher Professionalism.” In his session, he explained that essential competencies teachers must possess include professional, pedagogical, personal, and social competencies. According to the Ministry of Education Regulation No. 11 of 2025, the main duties of teachers include planning instruction, conducting instruction, assessing learning outcomes, guiding and training students, as well as carrying out additional responsibilities. He emphasized that teachers are lifelong learners who must continuously adapt to technology, policies, and evolving scientific knowledge.

The first session lasted 60 minutes. Afterwards, the committee invited participants to join an ice-breaking picture-guessing quiz to refresh their minds. Participants were enthusiastic during the activity, which was facilitated by the Technical Team of Webinar Series #6. Three participants who answered correctly received attractive prizes.

Following the ice-breaking session, the second speaker, Dr. R. Rosnawati, M.Si., presented material titled “Teacher Professional Education Program: Learning from Singapore.” She explained that the teacher professional program in Indonesia is an effort to improve the quality of education. Participants were invited to explore how Singapore’s teacher professional program operates, emphasizing not only knowledge and skills but also values. Compared to Indonesia, where numerous competencies exist—social, pedagogical, professional—without clear competency development facilities, Singapore provides very structured developmental support.

The webinar, moderated by Prof. Dr. Ariyadi Wijaya, M.Sc., ran interactively, with participants—including lecturers, students, and education practitioners—actively engaging in the Q&A session.

Webinar Series #6 successfully facilitated discussions on shared experiences and examined how far ideal expectations can be realized in actual practice. The Department of Mathematics Education, FMIPA UNY, remains committed to providing academic forums that are up-to-date, innovative, and relevant to the developments of 21st-century education.
