Training on the Utilization of Generative AI for Developing Mathematics Teaching Materials in Kulonprogo Vocational Schools

The Mathematics Study Program, in collaboration with the Mathematics MGMP of Kulonprogo Regency, successfully conducted a training titled “Utilizing Generative AI to Support Mathematics Learning for Vocational School Teachers.” The event was held offline on August 20, 2025, and was attended by 30 teachers from various vocational schools (SMK) across Kulonprogo.
This training aimed to enhance teachers’ capacity in developing AI-based digital teaching materials, such as worksheets (LKPD) and interactive learning resources tailored to the needs of different vocational programs in SMK. Through theoretical sessions and hands-on practice, participants were introduced to the concepts and applications of AI technology, particularly the use of platforms such as ChatGPT in creating innovative and contextual teaching materials.
Throughout the training, participants showed great enthusiasm as they took part in various sessions, ranging from material presentations and group discussions to hands-on practice in creating LKPD with the support of generative AI. Each teacher was also assigned an individual task to produce at least one digital teaching product aligned with the specialization areas in their respective schools. The outputs varied widely, including applied mathematics worksheets and simulation-based teaching materials.
Evaluation results through pre-tests and post-tests showed a significant improvement in participants’ competence in utilizing AI for developing teaching materials. The average post-test scores increased compared to the pre-test scores, indicating the effectiveness of the training in enhancing teachers’ digital literacy.
In addition to the creation of digital teaching products, the training also produced several important outputs, including a news report published on the study program’s website, a cooperation document with the SMK Mathematics MGMP of Kulonprogo, and a community service article ready for journal submission. This activity is expected to serve as an initial step in strengthening collaborative networks between universities and schools, as well as supporting digital transformation in vocational education in Kulonprogo.
