FKIP University of Jember Visits FMIPA UNY: Strengthening Benchmarking and Curriculum Collaboration in Mathematics Education

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of Yogyakarta State University (UNY) received a visit from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of the University of Jember for a benchmarking activity on curriculum development for the Mathematics Education Study Program, on Thursday (October 23, 2025), in the Examination Room 4, Graduate and Doctoral Building, FMIPA UNY. The event was attended by the Vice Dean for Research, Cooperation, Information Systems, and Business Affairs; the Head of the Information and Cooperation Unit (KUIK) FMIPA UNY; the Heads of the Undergraduate, Master’s, and Doctoral Programs in Mathematics Education FMIPA UNY; lecturers; and representatives from the Mathematics Study Program of FKIP University of Jember.

In his welcoming speech, the Vice Dean for Research, Cooperation, Information Systems, and Business Affairs FMIPA UNY, Dr. Pujianto, M.Pd., stated that this activity serves as a platform for sharing best practices in curriculum management and learning implementation.

“FMIPA UNY offers Mathematics Education programs from undergraduate to doctoral levels. We continuously develop various learning models, and our lecturers also act as validators, examiners, and supervisors for lecturers from other universities. We hope this event will inspire and motivate us to strengthen collaboration with FKIP University of Jember,” he said.

Furthermore, Dr. Pujianto added that FMIPA UNY continuously updates its curriculum based on the scientific vision of the study program, which includes grouping courses into pedagogical and non-pedagogical categories. Strengthening efforts are also made through research-based learning materials, the addition of educational technology courses, and unique faculty characteristics such as the “Scientific Insight” course.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Doctoral Program in Mathematics Education FKIP University of Jember, Dr. Erfan Yudianto, M.Pd., expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and openness of FMIPA UNY.

“We chose UNY as our benchmarking destination because of its strengths and uniqueness in curriculum design. Some of our undergraduate students have also visited UNY through the MBKM (Independent Learning) program. We aim to expand our collaboration through an Implementation Agreement in curriculum and research,” he stated.

This activity also served as a joint reflection to explore more concrete forms of collaboration between the two institutions, particularly in curriculum development, research, and the enhancement of learning quality.

Through this benchmarking activity, FKIP University of Jember and FMIPA UNY agreed to strengthen their synergy in building adaptive and innovative higher education. This effort also supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG #4) on Quality Education and SDG #17 on Partnerships—specifically in education, teaching, and community service collaboration between FMIPA UNY and FKIP University of Jember, particularly in the Mathematics Education program. It is hoped that this activity will serve as a platform to improve quality and foster innovation, allowing both parties to complement one another. (ratna/witono)
