Department of Mathematics Education, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Yogyakarta State University Successfully Held Webinar Series #4 in 2025 The Department of Mathematics Education, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Yogyakarta State University, successfully held the Webinar Series #4 of 2025 on Saturday, September 27, 2025, with the theme “Synergy of Mathematics and Technology for 21st Century Learning.” The event was officially opened by Dr. Kuswari Hernawati, S.Si., M.Kom., who, in her opening remarks, emphasized that the webinar aimed to strengthen educators' understanding of how to use technology effectively while ensuring that the role of mathematics remains relevant and contextual in facing the challenges of 21st-century education.
The first speaker, Mr. Tommy Tanu Wijaya, M.Ed., Ph.D., delivered a presentation titled “Latent Profile Analysis of AI Literacy and Trust in Mathematics Teachers and Their Relations with AI Dependency and 21st Century Skills.” He highlighted the importance of AI literacy without reinforcing dependency on technology and encouraged collaborative projects that integrate both AI-assisted and non-AI problem-solving. This approach, he argued, promotes a more balanced integration of technology that does not diminish students’ critical thinking or creativity.
Meanwhile, the second speaker, Dr. Muhammad Irfan, M.Pd., presented on “The Impact of Technology Use in Mathematics Learning.” He emphasized that while technology has become an integral part of modern mathematics education, its use must still consider pedagogical and didactical aspects. Dr. Irfan cautioned that excessive use of technology may reduce the essence of mathematical thinking, and therefore, teachers must be wise in selecting, designing, and integrating technology according to the specific needs of their learning environments.
The webinar, moderated by Mrs. Rofi Amiyani, M.Pd., was interactive and received high enthusiasm from participants. The Q&A session opened up a rich discussion on the challenges and opportunities of integrating technology into mathematics education. Through this event, the Department of Mathematics Education at FMIPA UNY hopes to broaden academic insight, inspire innovative teaching practices, and make a tangible contribution to improving the quality of mathematics education in Indonesia in the digital era.
