WEBINAR SERIES #1 2025: Mathematics Learning with a Deep Learning Approach and Its Assessment

The Department of Mathematics Education, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Yogyakarta State University (UNY), successfully organized Webinar Series #6 2024 on Saturday, July 26, 2025, with the theme “Mathematics Learning with a Deep Learning Approach and Its Assessment.”

The event was opened by Dr. Kuswari Hernawati, S.Si., M.Kom., who emphasized that the aim of this activity was to broaden perspectives and provide inspiration for educators in developing adaptive and meaningful mathematics learning.

The first speaker, Mr. Arif Jamali, S.Pd., presented a session on “Mathematics Learning with a Deep Learning Approach.” He highlighted that quality education is the right of every citizen and a key to national development. Deep learning was introduced as an approach that emphasizes a conscious, meaningful, and enjoyable learning environment through integrated and holistic engagement of the mind, heart, feeling, and body.

Meanwhile, the second speaker, Prof. Dr. Heri Retnawati, M.Pd., delivered a presentation on “Current Mathematics Learning Assessment.” He stressed the importance of initial, mid, and final assessments, along with assessment as learning that encourages students to reflect on what they have and have not mastered. He underscored that the essential messages of learning are to be meaningful, foster self-awareness, help students recognize what they can and cannot do, and create an enjoyable atmosphere. Learning, he added, should also incorporate pedagogical practices based on authentic experiences, train higher-order thinking skills (HOTS), and promote collaboration.

Moderated by Dr. Elly Arliani, M.Si., the webinar ran interactively, with participants showing great enthusiasm during the Q&A session on deep learning and its assessment. The Department of Mathematics Education, FMIPA UNY, remains committed to making positive contributions to the development of mathematics education in Indonesia through pedagogical innovations and strengthening educator competencies.
