Senior High School Mathematics Teachers’ Association (MGMP) of Wonogiri Regency Enhances Competence through a Numeracy Learning Workshop Based on Worked Examples by UNY Lecturers

On Saturday, August 24, 2024, a team of lecturers from the Department of Mathematics Education, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Yogyakarta State University, carried out a community service program for mathematics teachers who are members of the Senior High School Mathematics Teachers’ Association (MGMP Matematika SMA) of Wonogiri Regency, held at SMA Negeri 1 Wonogiri. This activity was a continuation of a previous online session conducted on August 7, 2024. The team of lecturers consisted of Endah Retnowati, Ph.D., Dr. Djamilah Bondan Widjajanti, M.Si., Dra. Endang Listyani, MS., Husna Arifah, S.Si., M.Sc., and Heru Sukoco, M.Pd.

The workshop was attended by several schools across Wonogiri Regency, including SMA Negeri 1 Wonogiri, SMA Negeri 1 Wuryantoro, SMA Negeri 1 Jatisrono, SMA Negeri 1 Baturetno, SMA Negeri 1 Sidoharjo, SMA Negeri 3 Wonogiri, SMA Kanisius Harapan Tirtomoyo, and SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Manyaran. The event began with welcoming remarks from the Head of MGMP, Mr. Broto Apriliyanto, M.Pd., followed by the Principal of SMA Negeri 1 Wonogiri, Mr. Drs. Susilo Joko Raharjo, M.Pd.

After the opening, the program continued with a presentation on the development of teaching modules and worksheets by Endah Retnowati, Ph.D., followed by a discussion and Q&A session. This presentation was expected to enhance teachers’ understanding of how to develop teaching modules and worksheets oriented toward literacy and numeracy skills as part of TPACK development. Based on participants’ evaluations, the effectiveness level of this community service activity was rated 4.4077 out of 5.

Based on the evaluation results, the Head of the MGMP Mathematics SMA of Wonogiri Regency and the Principal of SMA Negeri 1 Wonogiri gave positive feedback on this program. It is hoped that similar activities will continue in the future to achieve the goals of improving the quality of mathematics learning, developing teachers’ professionalism in designing and applying more effective and relevant teaching methods, and strengthening collaboration between the MGMP Mathematics SMA of Wonogiri Regency and Yogyakarta State University.
