Learning Design Symposium: Developing Multimedia Learning Principles and Self-Efficacy in the Perspective of Cognitive Load Theory

On Saturday, August 3, 2024, the Indonesian Center for Cognitive Load Review held a symposium entitled “Developing Multimedia Learning Principles and Self-Efficacy in the Perspective of Cognitive Load Theory” at Grand Rohan. The event was successfully conducted and attended by 36 participants consisting of undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students in mathematics education, as well as members of the public with an interest in education and Cognitive Load Theory.
The symposium featured Keynote Speaker Endah Retnowati, Ph.D., along with plenary speakers Tista Sugiarti, M.Pd., Sendy Hidayah, S.Pd., Pratama Wahyu Purnama, M.Pd., and Irda Rafi’ah. The plenary speakers delivered presentations covering two main themes: multimedia learning and the split-attention effect. In addition, a poster exhibition showcased various worked examples of mathematics problem solving that had been empirically tested.
Following the presentation sessions, participants were divided into five discussion groups. Each group discussed research proposal titles, research instruments, research data, final research reports, and article drafts. These discussions not only deepened participants’ understanding of the topics presented but also enhanced their skills in designing and conducting research relevant to the principles of Cognitive Load Theory.
The Indonesian Center for Cognitive Load Review hopes that this symposium will serve as a significant first step toward improving the quality of education in Indonesia through the application of theories and principles grounded in scientific research
