Benchmarking Visit of the Department of Mathematics Education, FMIPA UNY, to the Department of Mathematical Sciences, FST, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM)

The delegation from the Department of Mathematics Education, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), conducted a benchmarking visit to the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), on Monday, June 8, 2026.
The delegation was led by Prof. Dr. Sri Andayani, S.Si., M.Kom. and was warmly welcomed by the leadership and faculty members of UKM. The session began with introductions to the academic programs offered by both institutions, followed by presentations on curricula, quality assurance systems, and the academic achievements of students and faculty members from FMIPA UNY and UKM.
The discussion was held in Bilik Mesyuarat I, Department of Mathematical Sciences, FST UKM, with a particular focus on the development of master's degree programs. As part of the benchmarking agenda, the discussion centered on strategies for developing Master's Programs in Mathematics and Data Science. Potential collaborative activities, including student exchange schemes and joint research opportunities, were also explored. Both parties exchanged perspectives on research-based curricula and the integration of data science to address industry needs. The open and constructive dialogue is expected to serve as a foundation for long-term collaboration between the two institutions.
In addition, representatives from the Department of Mathematics Education, FMIPA UNY, had the opportunity to visit the Mathematics Museum at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, FST UKM. This visit was expected to broaden insights into the management and development of educational facilities. The Mathematics Museum, located within FST UKM, features interactive learning exhibits such as the Enigma Wheel game and cryptography demonstration tools. The visit provided inspiration for the development of innovative learning resources at FMIPA UNY.
The benchmarking visit concluded with a group photograph and a mutual commitment to follow-up actions, including discussions on a Letter of Intent for Cooperation (LoI) and an Implementation Arrangement (IA) to formalize future collaboration.
