YOGYAKARTA – The Department of Mathematics Education at FMIPA UNY, which oversees the Undergraduate, Master’s, and Doctoral Programs in Mathematics Education, continues to strengthen its international academic network through sustained collaboration with the University of Leeds. Previously, the partnership between the two institutions had been established through various academic and research activities focusing on the development of learning based on Cognitive Load Theory, the organization of international guest lectures, as well as joint research discussions involving lecturers and students.

As a reinforcement of this collaboration, the three study programs officially signed an Implementation Agreement (IA) with the University of Leeds on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. The signing ceremony, held at FMIPA UNY, was attended by Ali Mahmudi, Sri Andayani as Head of the Department of Mathematics Education, and lecturers from the Department of Mathematics Education. This strategic agenda was coordinated by Endah Retnowati as Director of the Indonesian Center for Cognitive Load Research (ICCLR).

The initial implementation of this collaboration was realized through a series of Serial Lectures attended by students from the Undergraduate, Master’s, and Doctoral Programs in Mathematics Education at FMIPA UNY. In addition to the lecture activities, the delegation also conducted school visits to directly observe the implementation of innovative learning practices. This partnership will continue to be strengthened through research collaboration and joint publication programs.

This international partnership represents FMIPA UNY’s commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 on Quality Education and SDG 17 on Partnerships for the Goals.
