Difficult Thesis is Normal

On March 4, 2023, a Saturday morning in early March, the workshop to accelerate the preparation of the thesis as an effort to achieve the ideal study period for Mathematics Education class of 2020 reached its peak. This workshop presented speakers who focused on providing material related to searching for references, synthesizing, and motivational strategies for completing the thesis. The first speaker, Mrs. Wahyu Setyaningrum S.Pd., M.Ed., Ph.D., started the first session at 07:00 WIB. She explained the ins and outs related to references in depth. Starting from the philosophy and definition of reference, to explaining the various types of references that can be used in making a thesis. Mrs. Wahyu provided how to make a synthesis and explained how to make an operational definition of a research variable. Not only giving examples, she also invited students to directly practice in finding references to reputable journals that match students' interests.

Continuing the first session lectures, the second speaker opened the second session right after the first speaker finished. The second session focused on providing motivations to students to ignite their enthusiasm in completing their final assignments as undergraduate students. She was Dr. Djamilah Bondan Widjajanti M.Si. The lecturer who is familiarly called Mrs. Djamilah or Mrs. Bondan started her career as a lecturer since 1986. The amount of salt of life and experience from her further strengthens the motivation given. Providing motivation is interspersed with stories of experiences from students who have been guided by him and his personal experiences when he was a student. One of the motivations that makes students not give up is “Maybe the thesis is difficult to complete, but that does not mean it is impossible to do”. At the end of the session, she hopes that all workshop participants will complete the final project by themselves, not by using a jockey who will regret it later.

The end of the material from Mrs. Bondan also marked the end of the workshop activities to accelerate the student study period. This workshop activity is expected to open students' insights in completing their thesis well without more than 8 semesters. Students are asked to make two thesis titles as a form of follow-up from this activity.
