Visiting Professor Jose Hanham #1: Important information when writing a Journal

Yogyakarta State University (UNY) has a long-term plan to become a World Class University (WCU). In particular, UNY is preparing to become a World Class University of Education (UKKD). One of the supports in realizing the plan is by improving the quality of lectures to the international level. The Mathematics Education Department of FMIPA UNY held a visiting professor activity to improve the quality of lectures.

On Tuesday, August 8, 2023, Associate Professor Jose Hanham became a guest lecturer in the visiting professor agenda. Jose Hanham is a lecturer from Australia, more specifically from Western Sydney University (QS WUR = 375). Visiting Professor activities are held in the courtroom 2 FMIPA UNY since 13:00 WIB. Visiting Professor with Jose Hanham is scheduled for up to 4 sessions with hybrid participants, namely some students attend lectures online and some are offline. Session #1, which was attended by more than 30 students, discussed important information for journal writing. Jose Hanham explained that in writing a journal there are components that must be considered, namely literature review, method, results, discussion and conclusion, and abstract.

The introduction to the article needs to be as interesting as possible for the reader. The Australian and New Zealand-born lecturer outlined some tips for writing an introduction. The introduction can be started using one or a combination of statistical data, questions, events in daily life, or dilemmas. Furthermore, Jose Hanham gave the following example. “Half of the world's population is not directly connected to the internet”, “617 milllion children and teenagers had not reached minimum reading levels”.
