Students from Papua study at Mathematics Education FMIPA UNY

Four students from Musamus University Papua studied at the Mathematics Education Study Program, FMIPA UNY for 1 semester through the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program. Each of the 4 students has the name Marselina Mite Wonga, Juliana Stefania Warayaan, Merlinda Merlin and Miftahul Intan. At this time, they were gathered together in order to participate in monitoring MBKM UNY students. The lecturer who attended and will monitor the students is Mr. Jarot Budiasto, M.T. from Musamus University. Meanwhile, representatives from FMIPA UNY were administrators of the Mathematics Education Department and a team from the International Affairs and Cooperation Unit (UUIK). Monitoring was held in the FMIPA courtroom recently. In addition to monitoring, the cooperation between the two parties between campuses was also discussed.

In the monitoring activity, Stefania said that there are difficulties in language when looking for book sources/references because the majority of learning resources use English texts. In addition, there are also lecturers who teach using Indonesian and Javanese in communication and when delivering material in learning activities in the classroom. “The first and second weeks of lectures were hard, because we missed 1 lecture meeting. For the implementation of the lecture, it runs with an online and offline system,” Stefania added. Meanwhile, Marselina revealed that the 5th semester course in Mathematics Education UNY was quite difficult to follow because the basic theories obtained at Musamus University were still very few. So there is a 1st semester UNY course that is only taught in the 5th semester at MUSAMUS University. According to Marselina, learning here (UNY) is a lot of discussion or presentation. Besides that, you also learn to look for more valid, quality literature sources from trusted sources.

Meanwhile, Intan explained that, the four students when previously at Musamus University, had not been taught about the technicalities in data analysis using SPSS, but at UNY in the first semester in statistical data analysis had been taught how to use the application. So we had to study harder to learn SPSS independently. Merlin said that while studying at UNY, she found many new terms in classroom learning, such as assessment, etc. We also became more refined in our communication, carried away by the culture in Jogja which is quite different from that in Papua.
