INTERNATIONAL MATH EDUCATION CLASS SIT IN AT UPSI MALAYSIA

A total of 19 students of UNY International Mathematics Education class participated in a sit-in program at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Malaysia for five days recently. The students were accompanied by Vice Dean I of FMIPA UNY, Dr. Suyanta and Coordinator of Mathematics Education Study Program, Dr. Ali Mahmudi.

Nawang Shita, one of the participants, said that the sit-in received hospitality in the UPSI library. UPSI library has amazing facilities. Spacious with a height of 3 floors and has a variety of different types of rooms intended for students who need comfort. There is a special room for those who are taking masters, there is a special room for children's libraries, there is an isolation room for students who will carry out exams or tests. Indeed, UPSI uses a centralized library system, so there are no departmental libraries; only university libraries.

The sit-in participants took part in lecture activities at UPSI. Advance Calculus was the first course attended. The lecture discussed testing the convergence of a series. Dr. Nor'ain, the lecturer who taught the course, provided a donkey bridge for testing convergence: HTC-PIRG. From the Advance Calculus lecture, the participants followed the Complex Variables lecture session with Dr. Zamzana as the lecturer. In this lecture all sit-in participants had discussions with UPSI students. Some of the students participating in the sit-in: Tiko (UNY) and Wildan (UNY) were invited to express their discussion results. The class discussion was quite enjoyable. The sit-in participants also received training on the use of GSP (Geometer's SketchPad) software.

The lecture session with Dr. Faizal was a mathematics education lecture that compared the mathematics education curriculum in the UK and Malaysia. The lecture was in full English.(shita/witono)
