Saturday, May 27, 2023, the Mathematics Education Study Program FMIPA UNY held a Webinar Series #3 with the theme “The profession of communicative, collaborative, critical & creative mathematics educators".  A total of 217 people registered as participants who came from almost all parts of Indonesia from practitioners, students, teachers and lecturers. The webinar was opened by S-1 Mathematics Education Study Program Coordinator, Endah Retnowati, Ph.D and said in her remarks that the growing learning media requires us to continue to explore and develop our ability to learn mathematics.

Webinar series #3 was moderated by Caturiyati, S.Si., M.Si who is one of the Research Group teams in the UNY mathematics education department. There are two very interesting discussion topics, namely differentiated learning in mathematics learning delivered by Empu Ki Suyanto, S.Pd, MsI, MOd, MPr. He is a teacher of SMA Negeri 8 Yogyakarta (2018 - Present), and at the same time serves as chairman of the DIY Province Mathematics MGMP and Chairman of the Yogyakarta City Mathematics MGMP. The second topic was Specialized Content Knowledge of Prospective Teachers, “What should be mastered?” delivered by Dr. Dra. Raden Rosnawati, M.Si. She is a lecturer in the Mathematics Education Study Program and Research Group Team.

The first speaker was delivered by Empu Ki Suyanto with the title of differentiated learning in mathematics learning. He said that the conditions in differentiated classrooms are unique classes, unique students and unique subject properties. In addition, teachers are often faced with students who have above, middle and below average abilities. Special strategies are needed to deal with this. One strategy is that teachers can design differentiated learning by creating a matrix in an independent curriculum. This matrix design is expected to invite students to think critically, collaborate, create and communicate.

After 45 minutes of hearing the explanation from the speaker, the committee invited participants to ice breaking temasur in order to relax the brain. Temasur (fun math puzzle) with the help of quiziz application. The participants who attended were very enthusiastic about participating in the temasur which was guided by the webinar#3 technical team. There are rewards for the three participants who get the highest score.

The second session was delivered by Mrs. Raden Rosnawati with the title “Specialized Content Knowledge of Prospective Teachers, What Should be Mastered?”. She conveyed that the current curriculum conditions have changed from the previous curriculum, as well as students of each generation have continuous development. This is the background for the theme raised in this webinar to prepare and increase the capacity of teachers to become professional teachers. There are 4 competencies that a teacher must have, namely pedagogical, personality, social and professional competencies. Teachers can have special skills in teaching math to be very interesting learning. This can be done by knowing the material to be taught, using applications or webs related to math and unique math learning media.

The last session is the question and answer session. The fastest participant questions will be managed by the committee to be submitted to the two speakers, but not all questions can be submitted to the two speakers due to time constraints. Before the event ended, the moderator said that this webinar was expected to be an asset for participants in preparing for the profession of mathematics educators who can create communicative, collaborative, critical and creative student characters. In addition, it was informed that Webinar series #4 will be held in September with the topic of mathematical psychology with of course presenters and a team of practitioners who are very good in their respective fields.
